American University of Beirut

Fees, Expenses, Tuition, and Withdrawal Information

The American University of Beirut (AUB) is a non-profit institution. Costs to students, including tuition and other university fees, are kept at a minimum consistent with the provision of high-quality instruction and adequate facilities and equipment. The university reserves the right to change any or all fees at any time without prior notice. Such changes apply to both currently registered students and new students.

Payment of Fees

  • Students are required to pay their tuition fees as well as any additional university charges, including health insurance, internet fees, social activity fees, and contributions to the National Social Security Fund.
  • Fee statements can be accessed on the AUB website/AUBsis.
  • All students must complete their registration and pay tuition fees, along with any other charges, according to the university calendar available online for both the first and second terms. Late payments may be accepted under special circumstances, within five working days after the official deadline, subject to a late payment fee of $100.
  • Students with a zero balance or an outstanding credit balance must notify the Office of the Comptroller— Students Section via email at: [email protected] to finalize their registration.
  • Sponsored students, staff dependents, graduate assistants, and student staff members must contact the Office of the Comptroller—Students Accounts Section—before the payment deadline to finalize their registration and confirm their enrollment and attendance.
  • Students who require financial assistance must apply to the Office of the Comptroller for deferred payment arrangements (installment plans) for tuition fees, according to the university calendar for the first and second terms. Applications for deferrals will not be accepted after the specified deadline. Deferred payments are not an automatic right and will only be granted under specific, exceptional circumstances. Students who arrange deferred payments must complete all registration procedures within the designated deadlines and make the initial payment by the due date. Deferred payment plans are not available for the summer term in any faculty.
  • The Office of the Comptroller is responsible for reviewing applications for deferred payment arrangements and overseeing the administration of such plans.
  • Students applying for deferred payment arrangements must pay at least 50 percent of the net tuition amount due. All other charges must be paid in full with no deferrals. A $36 application fee is required regardless of whether the application is approved. If approved, students must pay the remaining tuition balance, the $36 application fee, and 1 percent monthly interest on the deferred amount. All payments must be made by the announced deadlines.
  • Due dates are final, and late payment fees will not be waived for any reason.
  • Students are expected to fulfill all financial obligations to the university by the specified due date. Failure to do so will result in the university deleting students’ courses, and/or placing an encumbrance on the students’ records, which will prevent future registration, release of transcripts and diplomas, and access to other university services. In the case of course deletion, students lose the right to sit in classes, take examinations, access Moodle, and enter campus. It is the responsibility of the students to be aware of all registration and fee payment deadlines. Up-to-date schedules for registration and payment of fees are available through the Office of the Registrar. This information, as well as the tuition fee tables, is also available on the following website: www.aub.edu.lb/comptroller/Pages/Student.aspx.
