University Prizes and Awards
Abdul Kader Sbaiti Spirit in Sports Endowed Award: Awarded to a student who is involved in varsity sports and shows exemplary team spirit, fair play, and integrity in sports.
Brummana High School Cultural Society Excellence Award: Awarded to the top graduate student who is a Brummana High School alumnus with a high average.
Distinguished Student-Athlete Endowed Award: Awarded on equal basis to both female and male athletes who have excelled in sports; top two winners of local or regional championships.
Dr. Hassan Abbas Endowed Award in Citizenship and Social Justice: Awarded to a graduating student who has a record of academic excellence, shows a commitment to citizenship, social justice, and freedom as well as promotes tolerance and inclusivity. The student must be receiving a minimum of 20 percent financial aid to qualify for the award.
Farid Saab Student Athlete Award: Awarded to a full-time student who has been a varsity athlete for at least one year, maintains good academic standing, and has been a member of an athletic team that is one of the top two ranked teams in the national league in the previous year. Awardee should be expected to have earned regional and international awards and/or medals and will embody the very highest standards of sportsmanship and leadership.
Mary Jones Memorial Award: Awarded to a graduating female student who exemplifies outstanding commitment to community service and volunteerism.
Mercury Prize for Distinguished Athlete: Awarded to qualified athletic student(s) who is/are professionally involved in a sport as evaluated by the AUB Athletic Department. This award will be used to cover tuition fees.
Penrose Award: Non-cash honorary award made to the outstanding graduate of each faculty on the basis of scholarship, character, leadership, and contribution to university life.
Salwa Siniora Baasiri Exceptional Volunteer of the Year Endowed Award: Awarded to one undergraduate student who meets the following criteria as evaluated by AUB’s director of CCECS: maintains a high academic standing, volunteers in innovative areas leading to a positive impact, dedicates a substantial number of volunteer hours, demonstrates traits of reliability, integrity, commitment, and teamwork, and demonstrates commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
WAAAUB - Abu Dhabi Chapter Student Endowed Award: Awarded to the student with the highest GPA in each faculty and who graduated from a high school in Abu Dhabi.
Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences
Abdul Hadi Debs Endowment Award for Academic Excellence: Awarded to a graduating student who has an outstanding academic record. The award is given to one student in the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, one in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, and one in the Maroun Semaan Faculty of Engineering and Architecture.
Aiman Suleiman Student Development Fund: Awarded to a student or a team who receive/s the highest ranking for the capstone project.
Ali Nehme Nesr Student Award: This is a competitive, graduate or undergraduate level award for research or development thesis/capstone/FYP topics in the MENA and Sub-Saharan regions. All FAFS disciplines are eligible to be considered as long as the topics revolve around WEFRAH nexus (commodities, value chain, processing, marketing, product innovation, or any related topic in emerging markets in the MENA region and Sub-Saharan Africa specifically).
Beit el Baraka & AUB Keepers of the Land Award: This award will be conferred on a final year project competition in agribusiness, agriculture, and nutrition and food science.
Boecker Prize for Excellence: The Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) is an international competition celebrating the exciting research conducted by graduate students, developed by the University of Queensland in 2008, the competition requires contestants to condense their research into a three-minute, one-slide presentation for a non-specialist audience.
Dean Edgecombe Memorial Prize: Awarded to the outstanding student in third year agriculture.
Dean Nuhad Daghir FAFS Graduate Student Award: Awarded to the graduating student with a master’s degree in the animal science or poultry science major at the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences who succeeded in accumulating the highest GPA over his/her graduate studies at AUB.
Dean Thomas M. Sutherland Prizes: Awarded annually at graduation to outstanding FAFS graduates. Awarded to the undergraduate recipient of the Penrose Award, as well as the most outstanding graduate student with the best thesis.
Director Fawwak Slieman – Dean John Fischer Endowed Award: awarded to a graduating undergraduate student who meets the following criteria: a 3rd or 4th year student who has committed to a FAFS major, demonstrates financial need and academic promise in the fields of agriculture, food or water security in the Middle East region or Africa.
Dr. Musa Najib Nimah Endowed Award for Academic Excellence: Awarded to an undergraduate student who has the highest cumulative GPA.
Dr. Yusuf Abou Jawdah Endowed Award: Awarded to third or fourth year undergraduate Agriculture student who has the highest cumulative average in at least three plant protection courses and shows a good understanding of the principles of food safety and sustainable agricultural development and demonstrates the ability to provide environmentally safe and innovative solutions/recommendations to deal with damaging and new or emerging plant pests.
Joana Haidar Award: Awarded to an AREC student who is environmentally aware and interested in agricultural practices and development.
Kashadurian Award: Awarded to a deserving student who was at AREC and has shown outstanding performance in farm skills and practices, and an appreciation for farm life at AREC.
Nahla Hwalla Endowed Award in Nutrition and Dietetics: Awarded to the graduating students in nutrition and dietetics who have exhibited collegiality and leadership with active engagement in student life to promote principles of nutrition and wellbeing.
Rabi and Samia Mohtar Award: Awarded to a graduating FAFS student who demonstrated leadership and potential to impacting the food and agriculture system and with a documented financial need.

A. Karim and Soraya El Cheikh FAS Student Leadership Award: Awarded to a female graduating student from FAS with a high cumulative GPA and who either demonstrated leadership in an AUB student club/FAS society or is a member of a varsity team.
Abdallah Lahoud Foundation Endowed Award: Awarded to an undergraduate student with the highest average in history or archeology.

Amal Saidi Memorial Prize: Awarded to a graduating senior excelling in the subject of anthropology or sociology.
Antoun Saadeh Cultural Foundation Best Student Essay Endowed Award: Awarded to the outstanding student essay on social reform in the Arab World.
Anwar Salman Award in Literature: Awarded to a graduating undergraduate student in Arabic in recognition of creative writing skills and exceptional research related to poetry and/or the literary works of Anwar Salman.
Burhan and Rabab Baalbaki Award in Elementary Education: The Burhan and Rabab Baalbaki Award in Elementary Education is conferred on a graduating student in elementary education who demonstrates excellence in his/her academic studies.
Dana Kambris Memorial Award: Awarded to a senior economics student leading community service through apolitical and a sectarian volunteering.
Dr. Assaad Khairallah Endowed Award in Social Sciences: Awarded to an undergraduate student pursuing a sociology/anthropology major or a graduate student in sociology who submits the best paper in Arabic during his/her period of study.
Dr. Basil Fuleihan Excellence Award in Economics: Awarded to the graduating student with a BA degree in economics who succeeded in accumulating the highest GPA over his/her period of study.
Dr. Elaine Hagopian Endowed Award: Awarded to a graduate or undergraduate student who has excelled in their studies in sociology or anthropology and has demonstrated a commitment to the pursuit of social justice and human rights issues.
Dr. Fuad Said Haddad award in Education: Awarded to the graduate MA student in education with the best thesis as selected by the Department of Education of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
Dr. Kassim Shaaban Excellence Award in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences: Awarded annually to an undergraduate student from the Bekaa Valley with the highest average in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
Dr. Mohammad Chatah Excellence Award: Awarded to the graduating student with a BA degree in political studies who succeeded in accumulating the highest GPA over his/her period of study.
Dr. Philip K. Hitti Prize: Awarded to the senior student in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences who, in the judgment of the president of the university, the dean of the faculty, and the chairman of the department concerned, exemplifies in her/his academic career the scholarly spirit of AUB at its best.
Dr. Randa Antoun Annual Award for Public Service and Civic Engagement: Awarded to an outstanding senior student in PSPA.
Educators’ Endowed Award in Education: Awarded to one or two outstanding in the Department of Education in acknowledgment of their achievement. These students should have known innovation, performed community service, and maintained good academic standing.
FAS Mamdouha S. Bobst Student Award for Civic Engagement: Awarded to a graduating student who has a record of academic excellence and has shown a commitment to civic engagement.
Ghazi and Maya Nourallah Endowed Innovation Award: Awarded to undergraduate student(s) in computer science or electrical and computer engineering (ECE). This award follows a contest between the two departments, where each year, one team (up to three contestants per team) will win, either from the Computer Science (CMPS) department or the ECE Department.
Hana Jabsheh Endowed Award: Awarded to an undergraduate student majoring in the department of Fine Arts and Arts History, with the highest GPA.
Haykal Media Award in Arabic: Awarded to the top graduating student majoring in Arabic with the highest cumulative GPA during his/her undergraduate studies.
HE Ghassan Al-Rashash Excellence Award in Political Studies: Awarded to a graduating student with the highest GPA in the graduate program in political studies.
Hussein Oueini Memorial Awards: Awarded equally between a graduating senior student in PSPA with the highest GPA and the best thesis written during the same academic year, as recommended by the department and dean.
Ibrahim and Loulu Durr Endowed MRVP Award: Two awards given annually to two students (one male, one female) enrolled in MRVP who have demonstrated outstanding medical research capabilities, based on the MRVP committee evaluation. Special consideration will be given to students who have shown outstanding research capabilities in the biochemistry field.
Jack and Hoda Afram Manok Endowed Award: Awarded to a graduating student in education with the highest GPA.
Kalim Bechara Award: Awarded to an undergraduate student majoring in studio arts who shows promise in artistic creativity.
Kamel Mrowa Award in Media Studies: Awarded to a graduating student with a master’s degree in media studies who demonstrates outstanding academic achievement and successfully completes his/her end-of-year project or thesis with a topic revolving around the past, present, or future of journalism.
Khawla Hobeika Rizk Endowed Award in Education: Awarded to the top senior female student in education.
Lebanon Renaissance Foundation Award: Awarded to one or more graduating students in political studies, economics, social and behavioral sciences, public administration, or history with the highest academic achievements.
M&C Saatchi MENA Award: Awarded to one or more graduating students in the media studies program, Department of Sociology, anthropology and media studies, with the highest academic achievements.
Majida Sanioura Memorial Prize in Humanities: Awarded to a top graduate senior in arts and humanities at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
Makhlouf Haddadin Award for the Outstanding Chemistry Undergraduate Student: Awarded at the end of each academic year to a graduating senior chemistry student who has demonstrated research capabilities through a paper or project and has an excellent academic record.
Makhlouf Haddadin Award for Outstanding Chemistry Graduate Student: Awarded at the end of each academic year to a graduating MS chemistry student with outstanding research and academic record.
Mansur H. Jurdak Excellence Award in Mathematics: Awarded to a graduating student majoring in mathematics at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences with top academic achievement.
Mark Sawaya Endowed Award: Awarded to the graduating senior student in computer science with the highest GPA.
Mona Chemali Khalaf Endowed Award: Awarded to the undergraduate student majoring in economics who has the highest GPA in the fall term of his/her graduating year.
Mrs. Jinan Majzoub Excellence Award in English Literature: Awarded to a graduating student with the highest GPA in the graduate program in English literature.
MT2 Best Achievement Award: Awarded to the computer science student(s) who prove their achievements through an acquired and demonstrated skillset across various accomplishments in specific area(s) of computer science.
Muhanna Foundation in Mathematics Award of Excellence: Awarded annually to the most outstanding senior Lebanese student in the Department of Mathematics.
Murad al-Akl Awards: Awarded annually for the best essay, speech, or debate on a given subject by the Department of English.
Nabil Bukhaled Endowed Excellence Award in Computing: Awarded to a graduating student who has demonstrated an excellence in the field of computing. Established to honor the life and legacy Nabil Bukhaled, the Nabil Bukhaled Excellence Awards in computing will be conferred on a graduating student with very high academic achievements graduating with a degree in computer science and one in computer engineering.
Nader Prize for Excellence in Arabic Language and Literature: Awarded to a graduating student in the Department of Arabic and Near Eastern Languages who has achieved the highest academic distinction and/or creativity during her/his tenure as an undergraduate.
Nadia Cheaib Hoballah Award in Education: Awarded to a graduating female student majoring in education who has demonstrated a passion for the field of education and teaching.
Nadim Khalaf Endowed Award: Awarded to a senior economics student with the highest average.
Poet Said Fayad Graduate Prize in Literature and Humanities: Awarded to a graduate student in Arabic who participates in the Al-Abhath Essay Prize competition.
President Elias Hraoui Endowed Student Award in Economics: Awarded to an outstanding graduate economics student accepted in a PhD program and to an outstanding undergraduate student who has shown leadership and scholastic work in the Economic Student Society.
Professor Fuad I. Khuri Award in Anthropology: Awarded to an outstanding Lebanese student graduating with a master’s degree in anthropology. If in a given year no graduate student in anthropology was identified to meet the stated criteria, the award will be given to a graduate student majoring in Middle Eastern studies.
Professor Mohamed Harajli Excellence Award in Humanities: Awarded to the top student in humanities.
Professor Ramzi Mounir Baalbaki Excellence Award in Arabic: Awarded to the top graduating with an undergraduate degree in Arabic or to a top graduating student with a master’s degree in Arabic.
Randa Azzam Khoury Endowed Award in Education: Awarded to a graduating education teaching diploma (TD) student, with a preference to elementary education.
Randa Bdeir Award in Gender Equity: Awarded to qualified undergraduate or graduate student(s) from the Department of Sociology Anthropology and Media Studies (SOAM) or the Center for Arab and Middle Eastern Studies (CAMES) who had authored the best paper on a topic related to gender studies.
Remy Rebeiz Award in Economics: Awarded to a junior student majoring in economics who has the highest average in a specific set of economics, mathematics, and humanities courses.
Salim Ali Salam Endowed Award: Awarded to a graduate student with the best graduate thesis in Ottoman or Arab studies in the fields of history, political studies and Middle Eastern studies.
Samia Abdul Basset Siniora Endowed Award in Education: Awarded to an AUB undergraduate student completing his/her BA in education who has demonstrated a record of academic excellence, a commitment to the education pledge, promoted moral and academic excellence, tolerance, inclusivity, and innovation in education, and is on financial aid.
Samir Makdissi Award in Economics: Awarded to a graduate student in economics for the best project/thesis.
Selma Mirshak and Mohsen Slim Endowed Student Award: Awarded to a graduate student majoring in sociology who has conducted best field work research.
Shehadeh Abboud Memorial Excellence Award in English Language: Awarded to a graduating student majoring in English with the highest average in the major English courses.
Sheikh Fawzi Azar Memorial Prize: Awarded to student(s) in SBS with a commendable paper or study submitted to the department. Annual balance will be used for the purchase of educational materials and subscription to scientific journals.
Suad Sabbagh Sanioura Memorial Prize: Awarded to a graduating student majoring in economics, in a very good academic standing.
Melhem and Tamani Zein Endowed Award in Fine Arts: Awarded to an undergraduate student majoring in fine arts, with the highest major average throughout his undergraduate years of study.
Teddy Christidis Excellence Award in Physics: Awarded to an excelling student graduating with a bachelor’s degree in physics who has demonstrated depth and maturity and a keen appreciation of physics.
Usama al-Khalidi Endowed Award: Awarded to an outstanding senior student majoring in biology who has demonstrated academic excellence as well as a commitment to community service and/or passion of arts.
Yvonne Stead Nasr Award for Community Impact in Education: Awarded to a female graduate student who has completed a master’s thesis and who has contributed or shown significant potential for community impact.
Wadia Noureddin Endowed Award in Biology: Awarded to a graduating student who demonstrates excellence in his/her academic studies in biology, as well as a mature commitment to a career in the same or related field.
William Van Dyck Endowed Award in Biology: Awarded to the graduating senior student with the highest GPA.

Abdallah Darwiche Endowed Award: Awarded to a group of students who submit the best final year project in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE).
Abdul Hadi Debs Endowment Award for Academic Excellence: Awarded to a graduating student who has an outstanding academic record. The award is given to one student in the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, one in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, and one in the Maroun Semaan Faculty of Engineering and Architecture.
Aline Daoud Award: Awarded to a female student pursing a degree in engineering who has excelled or provided a contribution to the topic of supply chain management.
Cesar P. Moukarzel Award for Urban Innovation and Sustainability: Awarded to encourage participants to present projects that would enable cities in Lebanon to be more livable, welcoming, sustaining people’s needs and presenting a better quality of life in the long run.
Dean’s Award for Creative Achievement: Awarded to a student in each of the main programs of the Maroun Semaan Faculty of Engineering and Architecture (architecture, graphic design, civil engineering, computer and communications engineering, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering) who has demonstrated outstanding creativity in her/his approach to academic work.
Distinguished Graduate Award: Awarded to a graduating student in each of the undergraduate engineering programs of the Maroun Semaan Faculty of Engineering and Architecture (civil engineering, computer and communications engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering) in recognition of outstanding academic achievement, character, and contribution to the faculty throughout her/his tenure in the faculty.
Dr. Robert Saliba Award for Excellence in Urban Design and Research: Awarded to a student for excellence in thesis work done in the urban design graduate program or in architecture, on a topic that is on Beirut and on core to Professor Saliba’s research such as modern heritage, infrastructural breaks, or reconstruction.
Farouk W. Agha Excellence Award: Awarded to a graduating student with a BE degree in mechanical or civil engineering who accumulated the highest GPA during her/his period of study at AUB.
George R. Rais Endowed Architecture Awards: They are awarded to three students in their third year of studies pursuing a degree in architecture. Selection is based on best project as determined by the Administrative Committee of the Department of Architecture. The first prize is $8,000, the second prize is $5,000, and the third prize is $3,000.
Ghazi and Maya Nourallah Endowed Innovation Award: Awarded to undergraduate student(s) in computer science or electrical and computer engineering (ECE). This award follows a contest between the two departments, where each year, one team (up to three contestants per team) will win, either from the Computer Science (CMPS) department or the ECE Department.
Hayat Salam Liebich Travel Award in Islamic Architecture: Awarded to a student in his fourth, fifth year or a graduate student of architecture, to enable research in Islamic architecture as a travel grant.
Mohamad Ali Safieddine Endowed Award for Academic Excellence: Awarded to a graduating student who is receiving financial assistance and has a high academic record, in addition to demonstrating good character as per his/her professors.
Nabil Bukhaled Endowed Excellence Award in Computing: Awarded to a graduating student who has demonstrated an excellence in the field of computing. Established to honor the life and legacy Nabil Bukhaled, the Nabil Bukhaled Excellence Awards in computing will be conferred on a graduating student with very high academic achievements graduating with a degree in computer and communication engineering.
Narine Bolghourjian Exemplary Engagement Endowed Award: Awarded to an undergraduate student in recognition of leadership, character, and contribution to the AUB life/community.
Nehme Moujaess Student Award in Landscape Architecture: Awarded to final year landscape architecture students whose final year project is selected by the department as the most deserving.
Nicolas and Faride Moujaes Student Award in Engineering: Awarded to graduating student/students who presented the most innovative final year project.
Professor George and Frida Ayoub Endowed Award: Awarded to an engineering student, graduate or undergraduate, who creatively contributes to the environmental engineering field.
Resource Group Entrepreneurship Award: Awarded to students who present the best project in cybersecurity or privacy to support the establishment of a startup.
Toters Technology Innovation Award: Awarded for a senior project in electrical and computer Engineering that demonstrates outstanding creativity, originality, and impactful application of innovative technologies. It celebrates students who push the boundaries of tech to develop innovative solutions that address real-world challenges.
Youssef M. Salam Civil Engineering Excellence Award: Awarded to a graduating student with a BE degree in civil engineering who accumulated the highest GPA during her/his period of study at AUB.
Faculty of Health Sciences
Abdelbasset Ahmad Sanioura Memorial Prize in Health Professions: A certificate and a prize will be awarded to the graduating student completing his/her undergraduate studies with the highest GPA in one of the disciplines of Health Professions at the Faculty of Health Sciences: medical audiology sciences, medical imaging sciences, or medical laboratory sciences.
Dr. Musa Najib Nimah Endowed Award for Academic Excellence: Awarded to a graduating student at the graduate level from the Faculty of Health Sciences who exhibits the “spirit” of public health and demonstrates excellent leadership skills and social involvement.
Dr. Nadim Adib Haddad Endowed Award: Awarded to a graduate student in the MPH program who has the highest GPA.
Graduate Academic Achievement Award: It is a non-cash honorary award in recognition of excellence in academic performance that is awarded to a student in the MS programs.
Integrative Learning Experience (ILE) Best Poster Award: A non-cash honorary award presented to the graduating MPH student who achieves the highest overall score in the ILE poster presentation, demonstrating outstanding synthesis and application of theory and practice, critical insight, and excellence in public health communication. The score is determined by a jury panel, and the poster presentation serves as the culmination of a year-long work on the project.
Kiram Sanioura Memorial Prize in Public Health: A certificate and prize will be awarded to the graduating student completing his/her undergraduate studies with the highest GPA in the environmental health program or health communication program at the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Lina Jazi Environmental Excellence Award: To be awarded to a graduating student who has demonstrated excellence through either a project, presentation, research, and or volunteer efforts in the area of environmental sciences in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Raghda Kurdi Exceptional Leader Award: Awarded to a senior female student pursuing her undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Health Sciences, who has demonstrated a record of academic excellence and leadership skills, and is on financial aid.

Abdul Aziz and Jamileh Soueidan Excellence Endowed Award in Medicine: Awarded to a graduating student majoring in medicine with top academic achievement and demonstrated dedication to the profession.
Dr. Abdul-Latif H. Hamdan Endowed Award: Awarded to a chief resident who produced the best research paper in the field of otolaryngology and related-specialties.
Dr. Bassem Tanios Best Resident Teacher Endowed Award: Awarded to the best resident teacher.
Dr. Herbert R. Nassour Jr. Surgery Residency Award: Awarded to a medical doctor pursuing his/her residency training in general surgery.
Dr. Jamal Jawad Hoballah Surgical Residency Award: Awarded to a graduating resident in the Department of Surgery at AUBMC who demonstrates excellence in research.
Dr. M. Amin Arnaout Award in Medicine: Awarded to a student majoring in medicine graduating with high distinction or distinction and has demonstrated integrity, diligence, and dedication to the academic profession.
Dr. Majid-Uddin Kazi Excellence Award in Medicine: Awarded to graduating student majoring in medicine with top academic achievement and demonstrated dedication to the profession.
Dr. Ralph Said Papas Endowed Award: Awarded to a resident or fellow in OBS/GYN who has been in very active, impactful, and demonstrated productive research as a first priority. As a second priority for a resident or fellow who exhibits excellence in teaching.
Dr. Roland Jamil Tannous Endowed Award: Awarded to a resident or fellow in OB/GYN who exhibits consistent compassionate care towards patients.
Franklin Thomas Moore — Ethel Jessup Memorial Prize: Established by the children and friends of Dr. and Mrs. Franklin T. Moore; awarded to the senior medical student who has shown the highest proficiency in obstetrics and gynecology or, lacking such, in any department, and in the student’s personal life a dedication to humanity, a zeal for truth, and a belief in God.
Hatem and Fuadi Moukaddem Award in Medicine: Awarded to a graduating student majoring in medicine with top academic achievement and demonstrated dedication to the profession.
Henry and Amelia Nasrallah Endowed Teaching Award: Awarded to a resident or fellow in the Department of Psychiatry who exhibits a track record of excellent teaching and mentoring skills.
Nimr Tuqan Memorial Prize in Pathology: It is in memory of the late Dr. Nimr Tuqan and is to be awarded to the student of Medicine II who excels in her/his work in the Department of Pathology.
Professor Ibrahim Salti Award: Awarded to the best project by an endocrine fellow.

The student should be recipient of financial assistance from the university, and should have the highest GPA as she/he graduates majoring in management.
