Mission Statement
The graduate program in geology at AUB provides students with advanced, interdisciplinary training in fundamental and applied geosciences. The program integrates core knowledge across key Earth science fields and systems with elective coursework aligned with tracks in general geosciences, sustainable resources, environmental applications, and natural hazards.
It aims to equip graduates with innovative analytical, computational, and field-based skills essential for addressing complex Earth-system challenges, developing sustainable solutions, and anticipating future environmental risks. Through a research-driven thesis, students undertake cutting-edge investigations in various areas of geosciences including natural resources (minerals, water, and soil), environmental geosciences, natural hazards, and climate.
Grounded in the mission of the Department of Earth Sciences, the program prepares students to become scientists, researchers, and professionals capable of advancing geoscientific knowledge, informing evidence-based environmental decision-making, and contributing to sustainable development of the region and beyond.
MS in Geology
Candidates pursuing the master of science program in geology must complete seven graduate courses (21 cr.) and a thesis (9 cr.). Students may select courses from the graduate courses offered in the department and a maximum of 9 credits of electives can be from outside the department according to their fields of interest.
