Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Materials: Multiscale Modeling and Mechanical Behavior - Department of Mechanical Engineering​ ​

Overview

The Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) of the Maroun Semaan Faculty of Engineering and Architecture (MSFEA) at the American University of Beirut (AUB) invites applications for a full-time position Tenure-track position, preferably at the level of Assistant professor, in experimental diagnostics and/or computational modeling of mechanical behavior of engineering materials at the multiscale.

​​​​​​Qualifications & Main Duties​​

The successful candidate must hold a PhD in Mechanical Engineering (postdoctoral and/or industrial experience preferred), a record-or clear potential-for impactful research in multiscale materials modeling and mechanical behavior using computational and/or experimental approaches. He/ She must have a potential for excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels and in supervising student research. In addition to the ability to thrive in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.  ​

The candidate is expected to teach core and elective course in materials and mechanics at the undergraduate and graduate levels; mentor student researchers, and engage in service to the department, faculty and profession. The candidate is also expected to develop an independent, externally funded research program and publish in internationally recognized journals.

Professor of Practice - Department of Mechanical Engineering​ (Open to Tenure Track Assistant Professor)​

Overview

The Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) of the Maroun Semaan Faculty of Engineering and Architecture (MSFEA) at the American University of Beirut (AUB) invites applications for a full-time position at one of the following ranks: Professor of Practice, or Tenure-Track Assistant Professor, in the area of Mechanical Design.  We seek an accomplished practitioner with deep, hands-on experience developing complex, high-performance mechanical systems at scale (e.g., aerospace actuation/landing gear, automotive drivetrains, biomedical devices/robotics, or precision consumer electromechanical assemblies)

​​​​​​Qualifications & Main Duties​​

The successful candidate must hold a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field (exceptional candidates with a Bachelor's degree and extraordinary accomplishments will be considered); or a PhD in Mechanical Engineering (Preferred; and required for the tenure-track rank). The candidate should have evidence of effective teaching at the undergraduate level or mentorship in a professional setting; graduate-level teaching potential is desirable. The applicant to the Professor of Practice position should have 10+ years of progressively responsible industry design experience, including leading cross-functional teams. For the tenure-track position, the candidate must demonstrate potential for an impactful research program in design, materials, and/or manufacturing (computational and/or experimental). ​

The candidate is expected to teach undergraduate (and, as applicable, graduate) courses, in mechanical design and related laboratories; mentor student teams. The candidate should play a key role in strengthening the design spine across the undergraduate curriculum and serve as a technical design consultant for capstone/final-year projects. He/ She must develop an independent, externally visible research agenda and pursue competitive funding.

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) of the Maroun Semaan Faculty of Engineering and Architecture (MSFEA) at the American University of Beirut (AUB) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position, preferably at the level of Assistant Professor, in the area of Integrative Design and Sustainability.  Exceptional candidates at the Associate Professor level will also be considered.  Applications for a visiting position in all ranks may also be considered.

The successful candidate must hold a Doctoral Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field and must demonstrate potential for quality research and teaching. The candidate is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, as part of the Civil Engineering curricula, and must demonstrate strong research potential that will lead to external funding and scholarly publications. The candidate will have the opportunity to interact with faculty in the CEE department, the School of Architecture and Design, and across MSFEA and AUB.

The faculty candidate is expected to teach and conduct research in areas that bridge civil engineering, architecture, and sustainability through expertise in structural design, architectural engineering, life cycle assessment, and computational methods. The ideal candidate will advance research and teaching in the CEE Department at the intersection of these fields.

The successful candidate must hold a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, and a doctoral degree in chemical engineering or a related field.  The candidate is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, as part of the chemical engineering curriculum, and must demonstrate a strong track record or outstanding potential for establishing a robust research program.  Faculty members at AUB are required to sustain an active research agenda, publish research findings consistently, deliver a standard course load at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and engage in service duties with the faculty in the department, and across MSFEA and AUB.​

Candidates with expertise in the general field of Chemical and/or Bioprocess Engineering are invited to apply. The Department, however, is particularly interested in applicants with research interests in renewable and clean energy, energy storage, green and sustainable chemical process engineering, bioprocess engineering, and/or advanced materials and nanotechnology.

The Department of Industrial Engineering and Management (IEM), housed in the Maroun Semaan Faculty of Engineering & Architecture (MSFEA) at the American University of Beirut (AUB), invites applications for multiple tenure-track positions.

Applicants from all research areas related to Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management will be considered. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. degree in Industrial Engineering or a related field, with at least one degree in engineering by the date of appointment. Preferred research areas include data science, decision analysis, operations research, project management, and human factors engineering. Candidates with teaching experience, industrial or post-doctoral appointments and a record of grant funding and scholarly publications are particularly encouraged to apply. Part-Time Lab Instructor - Electrical & Computer Engineering Labs

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the American University of Beirut (AUB) invites applications for a laboratory instructor position, starting August 11, 2025. Applicants should possess a master's degree in electrical and computer engineering.​

​​​​​Qualifications & Main Duties

  • Master's degree in electrical and computer Engineering.

  • Strong experience across the following areas: electric circuits, digital and analog electronics, instrumentation, signal and systems, and control systems.

  •  Practical knowledge of Data acquisitions, microcontrollers, sensors, motors, circuit simulation, and design tools.

  • Hands-on experience and troubleshooting capabilities.

  • Good Communication Skills.

  • Previous teaching experience is a plus.​

  • Teach hands-on laboratory sessions, each lab session duration is 2 to 3 hours.

  • Assist students during lab exercises by providing guidance and troubleshooting support.

  • Assess students' performance, grading quizzes, reports, and projects.

  • Maintain the Moodle course page and prepare course files.

  • Update lab course material, experiments, and exam questions.​
