  Founded in 1866, the American University of Beirut is a teaching-centered research university based on the American liberal arts model of higher education. The department offers a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Chemical Engineering (BE), a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical engineering (BS) and two master's programs: Master of Engineering in Chemical Engineering (ME), and Master of Science in Chemical Engineering (MS). Our mission is to provide a stimulating and supportive environment for quality education, and to prepare graduates for career opportunities in a rapidly changing world by fostering the development of professionalism, leadership qualities and ethical behavior.

The Bachelor of Engineering degree program in Chemical Engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, under the commission’s General Criteria and Program Criteria for Chemical, Biochemical, Biomolecular, and Similarly Named Engineering Programs.
