  Founded in 1866, the American University of Beirut is a teaching-centered research university based on the American liberal arts model of higher education. AUB has over 8,000 students and 800 faculty members. Dr. Haytham Kaafarani

Dr. Haytham Kaafarani, Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School, delivered the third TrEd Career Chat, entitled, “Beirut, Bangui, Boston: The Raw Stories of Failure That Build One Up" on Oct 20, 2025. From Beirut to Boston, Dr. Haytham redefined the meaning of success. He reminded us that failure is not the opposite of success; it is the foundation of achievement. He did not speak of titles or triumphs, but of moments that revealed what true leadership means, showing that medicine's greatest power is human connection. He reminded us that failure is fuel, vulnerability is strength, and that the greatest investment any leader can make is in people.
