The Lab offers a summer research internship opportunity for undergraduate students.
The internship offers students the opportunity to develop applied research skills, work with real-world socioeconomic datasets and measurement tools, and contribute to ongoing projects with academic and policy relevance. It is also intended as a pathway for students interested in future roles in research, data science, or policy analysis.
Interns will rotate across at least three of the following areas of engagement during the program:
- Data Systems and Management: Collect, structure, and integrate socioeconomic datasets used in applied research, including survey data, administrative records, and unstructured data sources. Prepare datasets for empirical analysis and document research workflows and variables.
- Research & Policy Synthesis: Conduct literature reviews, policy scanning, and synthesis of academic and policy materials. Organize research inputs into structured formats to support analysis and ongoing research projects.
- Economic Modeling: Assist with developing statistical/econometric models to quantify and represent economic relationships and outcomes using structured datasets, including applications in labor market analysis, inequality, and poverty measurement.
- Analytics and Visualization: Use Python or R to analyze structured datasets and produce indicators, visualizations, and dashboards to communicate results and support economic analysis. Contribute to interactive tools for monitoring economic and social indicators.
Duration
The internship lasts 10 weeks, with an expected commitment of 30 hours per week.
Eligibility
Applicants should be undergraduate students in economics or closely related fields, with a strong interest in applied economic research and policy issues. Undergraduate students from AUB and other institutions in Lebanon and abroad are eligible for the internship program. Priority will be given to sophomore and junior students at AUB.
