As part of its outreach program, the Department of Earth Sciences at AUB has been visiting numerous schools in Beirut to promote its newly revamped program. Throughout these visits, it was noticed that most students were unaware of how vast and comprehensive the field of Earth Science is. Recognizing this gap, the Department of Earth Sciences proposes dynamic and immersive 1-week activities followed by an educational experience over 9 months during the academic year 2024-2025.The project aims to introduce a group of 12 motivated students to various fields in Earth Sciences and provide them with an educational, interactive, and hands-on experience in research work. This project addresses the challenge of making Earth Sciences familiar and well-known to the public and aligns with contemporary educational trends by incorporating interactive hands-on components.
The research topics and activities the students will tackle are designed to provide them with an understanding of certain domains within Earth Sciences and expose them to various research techniques and methodologies. By the end of the project, students will have the opportunity to present their accomplishments and eventually become citizen scientists by applying and communicating what they learned to their communities.
