AUB offers financial aid to deserving and qualified students in the form of Need-Based Financial Aid Grants, Merit Scholarships, and Student Work-Study.
Need-Based Financial Aid Grants
Need-Based Financial Aid Grants are outright awards of assistance based on demonstrated need as assessed by the Interfaculty Financial Aid Committee.
The following rules apply for Need-Based Financial Aid Grants:
- Recipients must be enrolled as full-time students. Students registered for fewer than 12 credits must submit a petition with justification to the Office of Financial Aid.
- These grants are awarded for the normal duration of the student’s major plus one additional term, whether the additional term is a result of enrolling for double major, dual degree, or repeated courses. Students may petition the Interfaculty Financial Aid Committee for an extension beyond this limit.
- These grants are awarded during summer terms only for students who have mandatory summer terms required by their normal program plan.
- These grants are subject to the following academic standing rules:
- If a student is placed on academic probation for the first time, a warning will be emailed to the student for signature. The student will be allowed to keep financial aid for the subsequent term. If the student is unable to remove the probation in the subsequent term for any reason, the financial aid will be revoked until the student is no longer on probation (good standing).
- If a student is placed on academic probation for a second time (whether consecutive or non-consecutive), the financial aid will be revoked until the student is no longer on probation (good standing).
- If the student is placed on probation for a third time, the financial aid will be permanently revoked.
Prospective Students
The financial aid application period is announced on the Office of Financial Aid website:
www.aub.edu.lb/faid. During this period, all prospective students who submit an AUB admissions application and express their intention to apply for Need-Based Financial Aid will receive an email from the Office of Financial Aid containing information on the financial aid process, instructions on how to access the financial aid application, and individual deadlines.
Students applying for a second degree or as transfer students are not eligible to apply for Need-Based Financial Aid.
Enrolled Students
Enrolled students wishing to apply for financial aid must send an email to
[email protected] during the application period announced on the Office of Financial Aid website. They will receive a reply with all necessary information.
Only complete applications are evaluated, and the Need-Based Financial Aid Grant is valid for the normal duration of study plus one additional term, provided the student remains in good academic standing. Students may petition the Interfaculty Financial Aid Committee for financial assistance beyond this limit.
Merit Scholarships
AUB offers several merit scholarships for full-time students:

AUB Merit Scholarship
This is a full-tuition merit scholarship offered to ten newly admitted undergraduates with outstanding academic qualifications. Recipients are selected based on academic achievement and do not have to submit an application. Awards are renewable each undergraduate year, provided that the student maintains a minimum GPA of 3.5 per term. The scholarship is valid for the normal period of study plus one additional term, whether the additional term is a result of enrolling for double major, dual degree, or repeated courses. Students may petition the Interfaculty Financial Aid Committee for an extension beyond this limit.

Early Admission/Action/Decision Merit Scholarship
Recipients of early admission, early action, and early decision are granted tuition scholarships of 30 percent, 25 percent, and 20 percent, respectively. To retain this scholarship, students must enroll in the major they were accepted into for their initial term and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5 per term. This scholarship is valid for the normal period of study plus one additional term, whether the additional term is a result of enrolling for double major, dual degree, or repeated courses. Extensions beyond this limit require a petition to the Interfaculty Financial Aid Committee.

SAT Scholarship
SAT Scholarship recipients are granted 10 percent tuition scholarship. To retain this scholarship, students must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5 per term. SAT Scholarship is valid for the normal period of study plus one additional term, whether the additional term is a result of enrolling for double major, dual degree, or repeated courses. Extensions beyond this limit require a petition to the Interfaculty Financial Aid Committee.

Lebanese Baccalaureate Scholarship
In cooperation with the National Council for Scientific Research (CNRS), AUB grants full-tuition scholarships to the top three students in each of the four sections of the Lebanese Baccalaureate, provided they maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5 per term. The scholarship is valid for the normal period of study plus one additional term, whether the additional term is a result of enrolling for double major, dual degree, or repeated courses. Students may petition to the Interfaculty Financial Aid Committee for extensions beyond this limit.

Liberal Arts Scholarship
Liberal Arts Scholarship promotes liberal arts education in Lebanon and the MENA region, with a vision that emphasizes the importance of undergraduate studies in humanities and social sciences, including the following programs: Arabic language and literature, archaeology, art history, elementary education, English language, English literature, history, philosophy, sociology-anthropology, and studio arts. Interested candidates must complete both an admissions and a financial aid application, indicating only one chosen field of study. Freshmen students are not eligible but may apply after successfully completing their freshman year. The scholarship is valid for the normal period of study plus one additional term, whether the additional term is a result of enrolling for double major, dual degree, or repeated courses. Students may petition to the Interfaculty Financial Aid Committee for extensions beyond this limit. Awardees will receive 70 percent of tuition fees provided they remain in good academic standing.
Need-Based Work-Study Scholarship
Students who receive Need-Based Financial Aid Grants and request additional assistance may be recommended for the Work-Study Program. Those enrolled in this program are expected to work a minimum of 50 hours per month during a term and are awarded 10 percent of tuition fees. The work type and place will be assigned to the student by the Office of Student Affairs, and the earned amount is deducted from the student’s tuition.
Governmental Student Aid for North American Students
US Federal Student Loans
American students pursuing their studies at AUB may apply for low-interest federal loans offered by the US Treasury in the form of Direct Stafford and PLUS loans. Applications are submitted annually online at
https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa. Students who are American citizens or permanent residents, enrolled at AUB in a regular degree program, and maintaining satisfactory academic progress are eligible for these loans.
The financial need of eligible students is assessed by the Office of Financial Aid based on criteria established by the US Federal Student Aid program. Students must start repaying these loans after graduation following a six-month grace period.
AUB and its Office of Financial Aid have developed a consumer information portal to provide details about the university and the Federal Student Aid Loans it offers, as part of its response to the Higher Education Act (HEOA) of 1965, as amended. The university discloses general information and reports on various policies, procedures, and operations related to academic programs, admissions and financial aid, student outcomes, and health and safety.
Canadian Grants and Loans
The Governments of Canadian provinces offer student grants and loans to eligible Canadian students enrolled at AUB.
Students should consult the student grants and loans service of their province to determine their eligibility for student grants and loans, find out how much they can receive, and apply for the student grants and/or optional loans through a single application.
Provinces and territories may cover one or more of the following: tuition, books, equipment and supplies, mandatory student fees, and living expenses.
