Financial Aid

​AUB offers financial aid to needy and qualified students in the form of need-based financial aid grants, merit scholarships, and student work-study.

Need-Based Financial Aid Grants

Need-Based Financial Aid Grants are outright awards of assistance based on demonstrated need, as assessed by the Interfaculty Financial Aid Committee.

Prospective Students

Financial aid application is opened for a specific period announced on the Office of Financial Aid website: www.aub.edu.lb/faid​. During this period, all prospective students who submit an AUB admissions application will receive an email from the Office of Financial Aid with information on the financial aid process, how to access the financial aid application, and individual deadlines.

Enrolled Students

Enrolled students wishing to apply for financial aid should send an email to [email protected] during the period which is announced on the Office of Financial Aid website and will receive a reply with all necessary information.

Only complete applications are evaluated, and the Need-Based Financial Aid Grant is valid for the normal period of study plus one additional term as long as the students remain in good academic standing. Students may petition to the Financial Aid Committee for financial assistance beyond the one additional term.

Merit Scholarships

AUB offers several merit scholarships:

  • AUB Merit Scholarship
    Full-tuition merit scholarship offered to ten newly admitted undergraduates with outstanding academic qualifications. AUB Merit Scholarship recipients are selected from among the newly admitted undergraduate students on the basis of academic achievement. Students do not have to submit an application to be considered for AUB Merit Scholarship. Awards are renewable for each undergraduate year provided that the student maintains a minimum GPA of 3.5 per term. AUB Merit Scholarship is valid for the normal period of study plus one additional term. Students may petition to the Financial Aid Committee to receive AUB Merit Scholarship beyond the one additional term.
  • Early Admission/Action/Decision Merit Scholarship
    Early Admission, Early Action, and Early Decision recipients are granted 30 percent, 25 percent, and 20 percent scholarship of tuition, respectively. To maintain this scholarship students must enroll in their accepted major during the first term and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5 per term. Admission/Action/Decision Merit Scholarship is valid for the normal period of study plus one additional term. Students may petition to the Financial Aid Committee to receive Early Admission/Action/Decision Merit Scholarship beyond the one additional term.
  • SAT Scholarship
    SAT scholarship recipients are granted 10 percent scholarship of tuition. To maintain this scholarship, students must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5 per term. SAT Scholarship is valid for the normal period of study plus one additional term. Students may petition to the Financial Aid Committee to receive SAT Scholarship beyond the one additional term.
  • Lebanese Baccalaureate Scholarship
    AUB, in cooperation with the National Council for Scientific Research (CNRS), grant the best three students in each of the four sections of the Lebanese Baccalaureate a full-tuition scholarship, provided that the students maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5 per term. Lebanese Baccalaureate Scholarship is valid for the normal period of study plus one additional term. Students may petition to the Financial Aid Committee to receive Lebanese Baccalaureate Scholarship beyond the one additional term.​
  • Liberal Arts Scholarship
    Liberal Arts Scholarship promotes liberal arts education in Lebanon and the MENA region, with a vision that emphasizes the importance of undergraduate studies in humanities and social sciences, namely in the following programs: Arabic Language and Literature, Archaeology, Art History, Education/Elementary, English Language, English Literature, History, Philosophy, Sociology-Anthropology, and Studio Arts Interested candidates must complete both an admissions and a financial aid application indicating only one chosen field of study. Freshmen students are not eligible for this scholarship but can apply after they successfully complete the freshman year. Awardees will receive 70 percent of the tuition fees throughout their undergraduate education at AUB and during normal period of study, provided they remain in good academic standing. Liberal Arts Scholarship is valid for the normal period of study plus one additional term. Students may petition to the Financial Aid Committee to receive Liberal Arts Scholarship beyond the one additional term.​

Need-Based Work-Study

Students who are recipients of Need-Based Financial Aid Grant and request additional funds may be recommended for the work-study program. Those enrolled in this program are expected to work a minimum of 50 hours per month during a term to be awarded 10 percent of the tuition fees. The work type and place will be assigned to the student by the Office of Student Affairs. The amount the student earns through work-study is deducted from the student’s tuition.

Governmental Student Aid for North American Students

US Federal Student Loans

Student loans are available for American students pursuing their studies at AUB. These low-interest loans are offered by the US Treasury in the form of Direct Stafford and PLUS loans. Applications are submitted yearly online at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa. Students who are American citizens or permanent residents, enrolled at AUB in a regular degree program, and maintaining a satisfactory academic progress are eligible for these loans.

The need of eligible students is assessed by the Office of Financial Aid based on established criteria by the US Federal Student Aid program. Students must start repaying these loans after graduation following a six-month grace period.

AUB and its Office of Financial Aid have developed a portal for obtaining consumer information about the university and its offered federal student aid loans as part of its response to the Higher Education Act (HEOA) of 1965, as amended. The university discloses general information and reports on various policies, procedures, and operations related to academic programs, admissions and financial aid, student outcomes, and health and safety.

Canadian Grants and Loans

The Government of Canada offers student grants and loans to eligible Canadian students enrolled at AUB.

Students can go to the student grants and loans service of their province to find out if they are eligible for student grants and loans, to know how much they can receive, and to apply for the student grants and/or optional loans in one application.

Provinces and territories may cover one or more of the following: tuition, books, equipment and supplies, mandatory student fees, and living expenses.
