Freshman or Nursing I

Students who successfully complete the freshman class are promoted to the sophomore class in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, or may seek admission to the equivalent classes in other faculties/schools. These equivalent classes are the first year in the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, the first year in the Suliman S. Olayan School of Business, the first year in the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, the first year in the Faculty of Health Sciences, and the second year in the Rafic Hariri School of Nursing. Students admitted to the freshman class are urged to consult with their advisors to familiarize themselves with the requirements for admission to the majors offered by the various faculties of the university.

Government secondary certificates (literary or scientific), including the German Abitur and the Diplome D’Etudes Collegiales (DEC) based on two years of the CEGEP program, the French Bacc. GCE and IB
  1. Government secondary school certificates (including French and Lebanese Bacc. General Sciences and Life Sciences) qualify the holder for admission to all majors in the sophomore class in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and to equivalent classes in the other faculties.
  2. Government secondary school certificates (including French and Lebanese Bacc. Literature & Humanities) may be required to take additional courses if applying to majors where some science or math is needed (9 credits of freshman level natural sciences and 6 credits of freshman level mathematics at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences before joining their major if applying to the Maroun Semaan Faculty of Engineering and Architecture). Information on additional required courses may be obtained from the appropriate department/faculty/school section in this catalogue.
  3. International Baccalaureate (IB), French Baccalaureate (FB) and General Certificate of Education (GCE) Requirements
The table below summarizes what students must take in the International Baccalaureate (IB), the French Baccalaureate (FB), and the General Certificate of Education (GCE) to join specific majors at AUB without having to take any remedial courses. Students who have not taken the material corresponding to a specific major may still join that major. However, they may be required to take additional remedial courses at AUB.
