I. Eligibility Requirements
Residents can apply to GME Fellowship Programs at AUBMC if they:
- Graduated from a medical school registered in the International Medical Education Directory (IMED)
- Are completing or have completed their GME residency training program
- Satisfactorily passed an English Proficiency Language Examination
- Successfully completed the required Fellowship Admission Examination
II. Examination Requirements & Dates
Applicants to the GME Fellowship Programs at AUB must complete two qualifying examinations:
1. English Proficiency Examination
Applicants must show a level of proficiency in the English language by obtaining the minimum scores in any of the below exams:

The AUB-EN exam is administered through the
AUB Testing Center.
Applicants Exempted from the English Proficiency Exam:
- AUB graduates or residents
- Graduates who completed both their Bachelor’s and MD degrees at:
- University of Balamand
- Lebanese American University
- Saint George University of Beirut
- Graduates of recognized institutions in North America, Great Britain, Australia, or New Zealand
2. Fellowship Admission Examination
Applicants must sit for an examination that evaluates their residency-level knowledge.

Validity of IFOM & Departmental Exams: 2 years
Applicants to Ophthalmology Fellowship Programs who have passed the ICO Examinations must upload their exam report(s) to the online application or Student Admission Portal no later than January 8, 2026.
Registration for Fellowship Admission Exams
- Residents without board certification must register for the NBME IFOM Specialty Exam.
- Registration can only be completed after submitting and paying the online application fee.
- Upon payment, applicants will receive an email with the NBME IFOM exam registration link.
- Registration is open between November 3 and November 21, 2025.
- Failure to register within this period will result in non-registration.
Exam Information: Detailed information regarding the exam venue and rules will be emailed to applicants at least three days before the exam date.
III. Online Application
1. On Application & Required Documents
Applicants must access the Online Application for Graduate Medical Education during the period
November 3–21, 2025 and upload the following:
- Photocopy of ID
- Photocopy of passport
- Photocopy of Social Security Number (if U.S. Citizen/Green Card Holder)
- Passport-size photo
- Updated Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Certified copy of the Medical Degree (MD) with original University seal or Dean's letter
- Certified copy of the medical school transcript of record
- Certified copy of the residency certificate or Dean's letter
- License to practice Medicine from the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health (if applicable)
- Three letters of reference from faculty members (Click here for requirements)
- Official English Proficiency Exam score report
- Board certification report (if applicable)
- Application fee:
$100 (payable by credit card at the end of the application)
Additional Notes:
- Documents not in English must be accompanied by a certified English translation and affidavit of accuracy.
- Missing documents can be uploaded no later than January 8, 2026.
- Keep original documents; the GME Office will request them later if accepted.
- Applicants to Neonatology, Gastroenterology, and Osteoporosis & Metabolic Bone Diseases fellowships must complete an elective rotation at AUBMC.
- Some programs may require a personal statement—submit directly to the concerned department when requested for an interview.
2. On Application Choices
- Each applicant may apply to two fellowship programs only.
- The first submitted and paid application will be considered the first choice, and the second will be the second choice.
- The $100 application fee covers both submissions; no extra payment required for the second application.
Matching Process:
- Priority is given to the first choice in the matching process.
- If accepted to both programs, applicants will automatically be placed in their first choice.
- Programs will be blinded to applicants’ ranked choices.
Important Notes:
- A maximum of two applications is allowed.
- Any third attempt will be disregarded by the GME Office.
- No changes to program choices are accepted after submission.
3. On Application Process
- Incomplete or ineligible applications will receive a non-acceptance email (fees are non-refundable).
- Eligible applications will be forwarded to the concerned program(s).
- Applicants may be invited for an interview in one or two programs (not all eligible applicants will be interviewed).
- Applicants who sign and later withdraw from the Letter of Intent will not be eligible to apply for future GME programs at AUB.
For International Applicants:
- Must obtain the equivalence of the Lebanese BaccII and authenticate their Medical Degree at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education before enrollment.
- This ensures a smooth process when notarizing residency diplomas later.
