  Founded in 1866, the American University of Beirut is a teaching-centered research university based on the American liberal arts model of higher education. AUB has over 8,000 students and 800 faculty members. The University encourages freedom of thought and expression and seeks to graduate men and women committed to creative and critical thinking, lifelong learning, personal integrity, civic responsibility, and leadership.

  AUB is accredited in the US by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and includes six faculties: Arts and Sciences, Medicine, Engineering and Architecture, Agricultural and Food Sciences, Health Sciences, and Business. AUB offers more than 130 programs leading to bachelor's, master's, MD, and PhD degrees. The main language of instruction is English.

About Us

Mission

The UPP mission centers around the teaching of the English Language according to contemporary high-impact and proven educational practices. Through its diverse courses, the Program strives to address the specific English language learning needs of undergraduate and graduate students to function well in all-English curricula. Additionally, the program aims to build the abilities of the students to ensure their successful transition and integration into university life. Through the management of USAID-Higher Education Program, UPP also develops a structured approach for service learning through students' involvement with community work.

Vision

The vision of UPP is to promote transformative education and to increase access to quality education for all learners from diverse social, cultural, and economic backgrounds. Through developing learners' academic, literacy, and soft skills competencies, the program aspires to be a hub of academic excellence and best practices in preparing its graduates for higher education study and for continuous personal and professional development.
