    Mission

Berytus is an international peer-reviewed journal devoted to the archaeological study of the East Mediterranean and Middle East for all periods, particularly, Lebanon and Syria. The journal will also consider articles on neighbouring regions and in related fields. Berytus is published annually in partnership with de Gruyter-Brill.

    About

Berytus was founded in 1934 at AUB by renowned archaeology Professor Harald Ingholt. Over the decades, the journal has undergone tremendous transformations while staying true to its mission of documenting the archaeological heritage of the region. Named after the ancient city of Beirut, Berytus has withstood multiple crises, including World War II, the Lebanese Civil War, and Lebanon's recent turmoil, yet has never stopped publishing.

Berytus has entered now begun a new chapter—one that extends far beyond the campus walls of AUB. Guided by a vision to expand access and visibility, the journal team has established a collaboration with the leading publishing house de Gruyter-Brill, expanding its reach worldwide. With this new publishing partnership Berytus is developing an online presence and a regular publishing cycle, consolidating and reinforcing its role as a cornerstone of archaeological research in the region into the future.
