The Music program introduces students to historical, theoretical and practical music at the university level. It aims to prepare students for further study, to complement their education in other programs and to advance the study and practice of music in Beirut, the region and beyond.
Our instructors are musicians and other specialists; both well-recognised career professionals, and people working in emerging fields of musical practice.
The program hosts a regular recital that showcases students, faculty and friends of the Department.
The Curriculum
The Music Minor combines historical and theoretical musicology alongside performances courses, covering both the western and middle eastern traditions. Along with core courses in these areas an eclectic range of special topics courses are also offered.
The program has strengths in the classical western tradition, Arabic vocal performance, western Jazz, and contemporary Arabic improvisational music.
Program Requirements
Students are required to complete fifteen credits, including six credits in music history, six credits in music theory and three credits in music practice. Students can choose from a range of core and special topics courses to meet these requirements.
