American University of Beirut

About Us

Vision
To position AUB as a civic convener and frontline responder to societal conflicts and challenges, while realizing the potential of university students as change agents in both local and global contexts.

Mission
To leverage operational research, campus-community engagement, and socially responsive partnerships to address pressing societal challenges, while equipping students with the professional and ethical skills necessary for effective crisis management.

Areas of Work
CCE's operational framework is represented through three standalone, but cross-cutting components:

  • Engaged Scholars Program (ESP), a four-track journey that engages scholarship students in leadership and skills development programs;
  • Fundamentals in Community Engagement (FCE), a three-credit Community Engaged Learning course integrated in AUB’s general education curriculum;
  • Strategic Community Initiatives (SCI), piloting multi-year flagship projects for the most vulnerable communities.
Together, these three components form a solid foundation for community engagement, positioning it as a pillar alongside teaching and research in higher education.
