I like Chinese and Indian philosophy, especially Taoist and Buddhist systems of thought.

I enjoy reading and studying about agency and moral responsibility, ancient and medieval philosophy, critical works especially those on religious thought and belief, ethics, Kant's transcendental idealism and moral philosophy, metaphysics, and social epistemology.
My main research is within the scope of the History of Arabic and Islamic Philosophy, specifically Ibn Sīnā's (Avicenna) metaphysical works.
Zahra Makki

Research interests: metaphysics (both contemporary and ancient), metaethics. I segued into the study of philosophy through the Ancients, and what continues to pique my interest is Ancient and Medieval philosophy as well as the reception of Ancient philosophy, particularly Neoplatonism, into Arabic/Islamic philosophy, with a special focus on Avicennian ontology (notions of privation and essential good). In my own life, I am always searching for ways in which metaphysical viewpoints may intersect with the contemporary queries of lived experience. When I am not reading or researching, I am often hiking a trail or exploring the coffee scene of a new city.
Jens Munch

My BA was primarily within Anglo-American philosophy, but where I could I was reaching for Marxist (and broadly continental perspectives) and Wittgensteinian perspectives on how philosophy is practiced. During my MA at AUB I spent a lot of time working through Nietzsche and the lineage he forms part of. For my thesis I'm looking at how ethics in academic philosophy understands the moral patient, with particular focus on how this is extended to apply (or not) to AI.
