  Founded in 1866, the American University of Beirut is a teaching-centered research university based on the American liberal arts model of higher education. AUB has over 8,000 students and 800 faculty members.   AUB is accredited in the US by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and includes six faculties: Arts and Sciences, Medicine, Engineering and Architecture, Agricultural and Food Sciences, Health Sciences, and Business. AUB offers more than 130 programs leading to bachelor's, master's, MD, and PhD degrees. The main language of instruction is English.

Safety and Sustainability Unit Facilities

The American University of Beirut is committed to providing and maintaining a safe, healthy, and sustainable environment for its faculty, staff, patients, students, and the broader community. In line with this commitment, the Safety and Sustainability Unit (SSU) is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive safety programs and institutional sustainability initiatives across the University, including Campus, Medical Center, and AREC. Through effective safety management, regulatory compliance, environmental stewardship, and performance monitoring, SSU works to protect people and facilities, safeguard natural resources, and advance AUB's long-term institutional sustainability objectives.
