  Founded in 1866, the American University of Beirut is a teaching-centered research university based on the American liberal arts model of higher education. AUB has over 8,000 students and 800 faculty members. The University encourages freedom of thought and expression and seeks to graduate men and women committed to creative and critical thinking, lifelong learning, personal integrity, civic responsibility, and leadership.

AUB offers more than 130 programs leading to bachelor's, master's, MD, and PhD degrees. The main language of instruction is English.

Said Samih Darwazah

A trustee since 2025, Said Samih Taleb Darwazah is the Executive Chairman of Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC, a leading multinational pharmaceutical group listed on the London Stock Exchange and part of the FTSE100 index. He founded the Health Care Accreditation Council, a not-for-profit organization that accredits healthcare providers and works across the MENA region to improve healthcare standards. Mr. Darwazah served as Jordan's Minister of Health from 2003 to 2006 and currently serves as Chair of the Queen Rania Foundation, Vice Chair of Capital Bank of Jordan, and Chair of Royal Jordanian Airlines, a position he has held since 2016. He has also served on the boards of the Central Bank of Jordan, Babson College, Jordan University of Science and Technology (as Chairman), and INSEAD. Mr. Darwazah holds a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University ('80) and an MBA from INSEAD ('84).
